While I was still working in Cebu, every December we used to have a photo shoot at SM Christmas Tree. The company I have worked for even had a contest on the best pose beside the Christmas tree. The person who would win should portray the true meaning of Christmas. I had some thoughts at that time asking myself: Is Christmas tree really important? Why should SM give a care of making such huge and extravagant Christmas tree every year? An answer has just tickled my mind today: this Christmas tree is not just about decors but it does give us joy and a reminder of the birth of our savior Jesus Christ and it's time to rejoice!
By looking into their decors and the response of the people, I was able to draw in mind what #MerrySMChristmas all about and pick up pairs of letters to give meaning into it, that was the friendship of GS & GC that gave true happiness in celebrating Christmas.
1. GS means Gathering and Sharing:
Now, that I am in Davao I was really excited to see the SM Christmas tree with my son. Indeed, this year's #MerrySMChristmas gave more delight to my heart, looking at the huge Christmas tree with the bounty of Christmas lights everywhere, the rainbow colors of Christmas decors, the big Christmas balls that I think , I only have seen this time and interesting village of Lego just near to the Christmas tree. They just bring message that we should be happy like a child, jump for joy and play like a child then, make others happy like a child too.. as they do from that day they put huge Christmas trees and Christmas decors inside SM malls in the country where kids, moms, dad, families, lovers and singles could draw a big smile into their faces and were amused by just looking at those eye-popping Christmas decors.
My son, indeed was so delighted with those Christmas lights and huge Christmas balls. He tried to hug each of them. A simple but unstained happiness and did make me happy by just looking at him enjoying everything he touched and saw. Thus, it was trying to tell us that even we only celebrate Christmas with simplicity, but celebrating it with true joy and sharing we could make other's Christmas meaningful too. #MerrySMChristmas behind their extravagant decor were a simple message that: everybody should remember and strive to be happy, we may have less or more, but true happiness and to be easily happy on simple things will make a meaningful Christmas. A #MerrySMChristmas gave essence to the value of gathering and sharing when they share their Christmas trees in the SM malls to others who cannot afford to buy one, where everybody rich and poor could celebrate together the wonders of Christmas.
Another thing beside the Christmas tree in SM Lanang Davao that my son got really fascinated were the village of Lego arranged in the big table and covered with glass. An Airplane catches his attention:
My son: " Like airplane, like..." , trying to hold it, but he couldn't .
Me: "Let's just watch and say hi.."
My son: "Hi...", waving his hands..
By just looking at those Lego land it already gave us joy and delight. Just like some of us, some may not be able to celebrate Christmas with their families like the OFWs, but we need to make a choice of being happy by just looking at them through pictures, sending them gifts, making them happy and talking to them.
Nonetheless, some may not be able to celebrate with their families who lost lives in tragedy, orphans, sick and those who were hurting, but we could make our Christmas meaningful by making them happy through true joy of giving and camaraderie or simply by making them smile by putting a smile on our faces.
Thus, #MerrySMChristmas means let us be happy like a child and make others happy like a child too..through sharing our love by Gathering & Sharing, Giving & Camaraderie. That is why SM invites us to their project SM Cares Bears of Joy for more details please visit http://bit.ly/MerrySMChristmas
